A Short Course on Becoming More Insightful

Information is what you get when you look something up.

It’s the raw material. It’s the recipe, but not the meal.

New information can lead to action, but these days, it often leads to a “like.”

Information is not the same as insight, though.

Insight is that famed “light bulb” moment.

Insight is distilled knowledge. It creates meaning. It momentarily lifts the fog.

Like an ancient tree in the forest, true insight is something to be respected.

Think back to your favorite teachers.

Even the most boring subjects can become exciting when a skilled professor turns rote knowledge into insight and gives it shape. Insight lends context and perspective.

A chronological list of Civil War battles is information.

Understanding why those battles are still affecting our country today is insight.
